Inside the 'Island of Pantelleria, the landscape is characterized by narrow streets that climb the mountains, especially alongside farmland with vineyards, olive and capers (another famous gastronomic excellence of the island), interspersed with cleverly built dry stone walls.
Even in these streets you can see the distant blue of the sea that separates from light of the clear sky.
Wherever you see the dammusi then, the typical residential square island, surmounted by a small whitewashed dome (for rainwater harvesting), and the Jardin, circular constructions to protect the citrus plants.

Pantelleria Island is situated 85 km from Sicily and 67 km from Tunisia, Pantelleria seems to be a bridge linking the Mediterranean world and Africa.
The northern part of this small island (50 km in circumference) is in fact covered by lush Mediterranean vegetation, which in this period (mid June) is of the dark rocks with colorful plants in bloom, broom and bougainvillea all.
The southern part, most barren and exposed regularly to the hot sirocco wind, the sight immediately struck by the abundance of prickly pears, able to take root even among the rocks.
The latter owe their color and their particular form volcanic island origin.
The minerals in these soils give that special taste to the product excellence of the island: the past Pantelleria, made from the grapes, raisins brought here by the Arabs.
For its strategic position in the middle of the channel of Sicily, the island was an object of desire of many nations, who over the centuries there put their flag: Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs (to whom we owe almost all of the names of location), Byzantines, Normans (who built the castle still visible on the main port), Swabians, Aragonese and finally the Bourbons.
